When I take photos of my personal stash, I always see it as a chance to better my yarn photography skills. I’ve learned so much that I now apply to photographing yarn for my shop. Photographing my stash also gives me a chance to experiment with fun ideas that may not fit in with the style of my shop but are just right for Ravelry and Pinterest. This is one example, which I love.
When I got two skeins of Malabrigo Silky Merino at a LYS, I immediately wondered what it would look like photographed in a bowl. So I grabbed my white porcelain bowl (which I use as a yarn bowl) from Pier 1 and snapped a few shots on a white surface. The contrast of the yarn against the white is so striking, and the simplicity of the bowl doesn’t detract from that. Yet the bowl itself is what frames the whole picture.
What do you think? Have you ever photographed yarn in a bowl before?
