there's just something about yarn...

Travel Knitting

May 21, 2017

With my impending trip to Texas next week, I decided to get started on a new project that will be good for travel. None of my current WIP’s would work, as they’re either too big (think cardigan) or require dpn’s (I know there’s such a thing as super short circulars, but I don’t have any and don’t want to buy any right now because I never liked using them). I needed something that would be fun enough to pass the time during my layover but still easy enough to pick up whenever.

With all of that in mind, I sat on the floor in front of my stash shelf, laptop open to Ravelry, and stared at the yarn. Then I looked through my queue, my favorites, and my pattern highlights. A shawl is something familiar that I know I love knitting, and I found quite a few options that I could make with my stash.

Leventry by Sarah Jordan showed up in my search right around the time my eyes landed on a pair of skeins I dyed a while ago and twisted together to remind myself to use them in a 2-color project someday. One of my knitting mamas made a Leventry and said it was a fun knit. I really enjoyed seeing her finished project, so I think this will be a good choice for these yarns. They’re my Simply Single Sock base, which means much like the yarn used in the design (Tosh Merino Light), and the colors are amazing together. The brown is actually not in my lineup officially yet, as it was an experimental skein. The turquoise is my Oceans colorway. Don’t they look gorgeous?? They make me think of cowgirls and horses, which is funny considering I’ll be going West!

Anyway, I’m going to print out the pattern and get started today so that I have a good feel for the project before I leave. I’ll be posting progress and travel updates on Instagram, so stop by and follow my adventures! :D
