there's just something about yarn...

Stash Enhancement

Hey there, December

December 2, 2018

Why does it always seem like I’m surprised at how fast time passes? Why does it always seem like I’m fighting time tooth and nail for more……well, time?? Am I the only person who feels this way? Please tell me I’m not..please..

Anyway, wanted to post some pretty photos of some recently-acquired stash I’m really happy about. Like, super happy about. These super-special skeins are on the top shelf of my yarn-filled bookcase right next to the skeins my close friend Shea dyed, and I’m excited to show them off to you. I know those of you who followed me on Instagram will have already seen some okay photos of these, but the low lighting of my desk did not do them justice, so I took them outside with my Nikon and got some better shots.

I’m sure if you’re on social media in the yarn/knitting realm, you’ve heard about Cathy, the gifted artist behind Hooker’s Corner, a line of indie-dyed yarns, and how she and her family lost so much in the fires of California. Seeing the knitting community band together and come alongside her has been amazing and so inspiring! I’m so privileged to be a part of such a caring group of people around the world.

I had been following Cathy for a bit, falling in love with her yarn, and was therefore so very sad when I heard the news of her home and studio being lost. But then I happened to see that Winterberries Yarn, a LYS in New Jersey, had some of Cathy’s yarn available and contacted them right away! See, they had apparently gotten a shipment of yarn for a trunk show and still had some left!! They kindly sent me photos of what was available so that I was sure to get two skeins that would look great in a two-color design I’m dreaming up for them. I ended up with two skeins of Cathy’s DK weight in two of her colorways inspired by Anne of Green Gables, who I happen to be named after.

The light blue-green with those bright pops of colour is Anne with an E, and the mottled brown is Matthew Cuthbert.

I’m really eager to see what design pops out of my head and is brought to life by these lovely yarns. :)
